Session 277 - Install new main engine loom connector

The connector on the standard westfield SEiGHT engine loom has a brown multi-way connector which connects to the standard Rover 14CUX ECU. Problem is I am not using this ECU. I am using the megasquirt ECU. A while ago I worked out all the wire designations, not hard as they use standard Lucas colour codes and tested to ensure there were what I thought also. Installing my own connector also gave me the opportunity to wire in a new live which I require to ensure that I do not overload any of the wires as I need to power up more systems.

So looking at the photo, left handside from top to bottom you have. 1) green/white which is the feed to the fuel pump, 2) blue which is my added wire direct from the alternator live which is in turn connected to the battery positive, 3) purple/white, a live feed from brown protected with a 20A fuse, 4) purple, a live feed from brown protected with another 20A fuse, 5) red/white feed to starter motor, 6) green, providing ignition live, I will use this to energize my relays for Megasquirt ECU, EDIS ignition module, coil packs, etc.

Session 278 - Fuel pump Relay.

Wanting to complete my wiring decided to do some more today even though it's Easter sunday. Spent a couple of hours, which is all I can seem to cope with when doing wiring, it drives me crazy! I wired the dark green wires to one side of the relay coils, involving soldering a number of lengths together, well kind of like a 4-2-1 manifold. You have to be careful doing this type of thing because it is easy to overload sections of wire this way but safe in the knowledge that this is only having to supply current to the relay coil anway will pose no problem.

I ran earth wires from the other side of the relays except the relay designated for the fuel pump as this is swiched by the megasquirt ECU by earthing. I finished off the fuel pump relay by making the final connections purple/white and green/white.

I connected the IAT (Inlet Air Temperature) and CLT (Coolant Temperatue) sensor earths to the chassis along with EDIS and Megasquirt earths. It is recommended that the IAT and CLT are earthed as close as possible to the megasquirt ECU. I have extended various wires on the EDIS pigtail. I have extended by soldering on extra lengths of wire and covered the join with heat shrink tubing.

The mass of unconnected wires is starting to look less daunting.

Session 279 - Main Relay

Easter bank Holiday monday was a dry day today so much of my time was taken up with doing gardening work, cleaning the car, etc. So only managed to do about 30 minutes in the garage. I wired in the main ECU relay which will switch on the Megasquirt and EDIS with ignition live. Routed the feed to the MS.EDIS via my new fusebox. My original plan was to have this relay also supply the injectors supply as the total currrent will not exceed 20 amps however I have decided that from a physical wiring perspective it would be good to have another relay do this especially as my relay box can accomodate four relays anyway and luckily I had decided to wire up the fourth relay to ignition and ground.

Session 280 - Injector Relay

Spent just a couple of hours in the garage over this weekend. I wired in the injector relay as mentioned above. Injectors +12 wired via 7.5amp inline fuses for each bank into the relay. I also applied some of my decals on the body to break up the wiring which I am finding a bit of chore if I were honest.

A play on the intel inside logo! Installed one per side. This also marks where the footwell is! Only because I thought it would look okay here and less likely to surfer from heat!

Sticker that I got with my race technology digital dash, slight deviation from my color scheme of black and yellow but it looks so good.

Session 281 - Coil Relay

Completed wiring of the coil relay tonight. This completes the wiring of the relays and fuses. Wiring of the remaining sensors to the ECU and EDIS ignition is the next job. I have 10 wires from the ECU to contend with, some of which will not be connected.

Tidied up wires and started to form a proper loom with temporary insulation tape at various points. When all circuits are proven to be working correctly I shall cover with proper loom tape and convulted tubing as I have done elsewhere.

Photo showing the mass of wires starting to look much tidier. I plan to do some coalesing of the loom, as you can see to the right of the relay box.
