Session 271 - Boot lid installation
The boot lid comes in two halves. The first halve is fixed to the body and provides a base for the lid. However a bit of clearancing is required to enable fitment around the 4 point harnesses. If you look closely you can see the slots I have cut out with the aid of my trusty dremel and drill. This took me a few hours to achieve. Photo below. At this stage the boot lid is just resting on top.
I fixed the base to the tub with four M5 bolts, requiring drilling off the tub.
Installing the boot lid with hinges was a little tricky as this has to be right first time. What I did was make some templates of the hinges using the spine of the hinge as a datum point I installed the temlates underneath and above the hinges with the lid and hinges in situ. I then fixed the templates down with masking tape on the body and lid. These templates would then show where I needed to drill to install the hinges with rivets. I decided to got the full hog and taped the hinges with tape to the indicated position to double check the position. I then removed the hinges and noticed that the rivets supplied were for countersunk holes but the holes in the hinges were not. Using my drill press and suitable taper bit I proceeded to make the holes countersunk.
I drilled the holes in the body and lid and installed the lid with my rivet gun and held my breath as I closed the lid... perfect.
Next installment will be installation of the boot locks. I remember cutting these into my bonnet and was left feeling that I got it right with some judgement and a lot of luck, we shall see!

Today's job to install the boot locks. Made templates as per the bonnet locks. Measured, measured and measured again. Cut out the holes and perfected with the dremel. Below is the finished job. Locks locate perfectly.
