VR Sensor bracket

Over the last couple of weeks I have been working with Chris of trigger wheels to design and fabricate a serpentine VR sensor bracket. Chris supplies VR sensors, trigger wheels etc for a variety of ECU, i.e. Megasquirt, etc. As you know I had attached my crank pulley etc. Once I received my VR sensor bracket it became obvious that this would not work. The bracket was designed for the non-serpentine Rover V8 with the older style timing cover. The new timing cover which is re-designed mainly for the crank driven oil pump does not accomodate the bracket. Luckily I have a spare timing cover which I sent off to Chris that he could use to mock up a prototype bracket. The prototype bracket looked crap but it proved that it would attach to the timing cover and that it would hold the sensor in the round about place. Chris then sent me an autocad/solid works drawing when I then printed out on thick paper to scale and checked. This design has now been commited to fabrication whereby the bracket will be laser cut and CNC bent to specification.

Exhaust manifold, etc is back!

Well it is quite a quiet month for progress on the car a couple of reasons, one, money is a little tight after Christmas and two, playing a waiting game with various items on order, back orders and waiting for places to catch up with workloads. One such example was my manifold headers, collectors and Y-piece which I drove up to cam coat in early December for a triple camcoat. Well today was quite exciting as it turned up just before I left for work, damn had to go to work wondering about it. On arriving home before I got changed out of my suit I could wait no longer so there I was unwrapping the exhaust and generally make a mess of myself! Anyway, it took me 30 minutes to work out the snakes nest of tubes and where they go into the collector! I am glad I made some observations before I parted with it.

Session 223 - Exhausting work!

Spent a couple of hours in the garage this afternoon fitting the exhaust manifolds, collectors and y-piece.

 

Photo showing nearside exhaust header/manifold. You install these pipes seperate, doing the outside ones first the inner ones and looping them through the chassis. Once the headers are in then lubricate and seal the ends with exhaust paste and also likewise on the collector and then hammer it home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Photo showing the collector fitted to the headers, need to find those springs again now as you can see. The boss you can see on the collector is where the oxygen/lambda sensor will be installed. Quite pleased with the clearance, the lowest part of the car is still the hoop around the transmission, may be a different story when I have the rear silencers installed.
